Mani,
I wonder about one thing regarding forum posts:

I sometimes see people posting "tutorials" or reviews of their own sites to forums without the "nofollow"-tag.

I guess this could be considered spamming, but a lot of these forum posts aren't deleted by the admins and they do get indexed by Google.

If they manage to post 2-300 words "articles" and embed contextual links with clever anchor texts in several forums -- wouldn't these links count more than a signature link in 1500 posts in one forum?

5 links per day Mohan, even if you hire an seo for link building campaign, ensuring that they tell you where the links are from and you get a steady source of links, is a healthy practice. I don't recommend people boasting about 500 links or so in a short time. It will hurt you in the long run.

Considering the fact that not many of us can come out with a "killer" SMOed post whenever we want, isnt natural consistency better aligned to ongoing SEO than a big bang of links, and then nothing?

What do you say? 5 links every week for 1 year, or 500 links in one day, and then nothing at all?

Mohan's last blog post..<a href='http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/BloggingIndia/~3/202753063/' rel="nofollow">Home coming :)</a>

Mani,
You are right, natural link building will get the best results. But it takes time. And it is so hard to be patient - that is why there are so many "cheap CEO's" in business.
Also, it requires discipline to build natural links. You need to constantly search for linkworthy material and build those links consistently in your posts.
