Do you think AdSense ads on your blog are effective for users?

Of course there are two sides to it.

1- Are AdSense ads effective for webmasters

2-  Are AdSense ads Effective for Users

irrelevant-google-ads

Forgetting the fact that I run AdSense ads on this blog, I find that not all the times do I find AdSense ads effective and contextual on websites that run it. There are exceptions of course, but having been in the industry for so long and being a monopoly, I’m expecting better results from Google.

And for the reasons why Google Ads are not contextual (sometimes), I can only think of the following.

- Lack of advertisers in each category.
- Sites being “non-open” and targeted that irrelevant ads throw up.
- High competency among advertisers that the highest bidder gets the best slots, even if they are on non-contextual content.
- The technology behind that decides what ads should be shown is obsolete and outdated.

But clearly, I can agree and understand AdBrite showing irrelevant ads, cos I know that there are only a few advertisers with them. But with AdSense ?

Do you think AdSense ads showing up on your website are relevant and useful for your users (that they won’t mind clicking them!) ?

This only proves your hyps – internet marketing has a huge rivalry. So, there are quite a lot of ads of this field. While if you wrote a post of some unpopular topic, the ads would be very different.

This is a problem of niche websites and blogs – very concentrated audience, but small profit from contextual ads.

In my case, a brazilian car blog, i get very very relevant ads. But i guess it is about the niche. Websites about cars tend to have lots of relevant ads.

There is a very cool plugin out there that allows you to only show adsense to users coming from search engines; thus not wasting them on marketers who already know what it is and most likely will not click.

@ Noticias Automotivas: your blog is not niche. It’s about cars but that’s it. The topic is quite broad. So you get lots of relevant ads.
Real niche blog would be for example about particular dog breed. Try to get relevant ads there :)

@ Dennis – Yea the one from OZH, that’s an award winning one. It’s called who sees ads, available here – http://planetozh.com/blog/my-projects/wordpress-plugin-who-sees-ads-control-adsense-display/

@Ramunas and Noticias – Yea I think it’s more diluted when it comes to niche, that you get ads from all possible sides.

I’ve seen this all along…most of the times the ads are irrelevant for what the post is all about…I can understand that the technology is not that mature to distinguish much between Microsoft Windows and a Glass Window…but there are many instances where there are totally irrelevant ads showing up and that reduces the chance of CTs. I’m sure Google is looking into this as they also lose revenue if the ads are not context sensitive.
