Mani, what you have marked as permalink is infact post slug.You cannot alter the permalink structure via that textbox.You can only alter the slug through it.And infact wordpress takes care of automatic 301 redirection, even if you change that slug…

People may not be able to edit the permalink throught post write panel in wordpress…what you are talking is about post slug…however even this gets 301 redirected…
