Submit a sitemap to Google (in whatever possible ways you can)
| Tweet | Share |
Submitting sitemaps to Google just got easier. Now, you don’t have to worry about the sitemap type, location etc, Google will auto detect it. All you have to do is tell them where it is through the Google webmasters tool.
Here are the steps you need to follow to successfully submit a sitemap to Google.
- Be a verified webmaster at Google Webmasters
- Build a sitemap for your site using either of these methods 1, 2 and 3
- Submit the sitemap name at Google webmasters Tools
(Go to "Sitemaps" in Webmaster Tools and enter the file name of your Sitemap)
Alternate method to submit sitemap to Google
- Build a sitemap for your site using either of these methods 1, 2 and 3
- Add the sitemap URL to the Robots.txt in the following format.
Sitemap: http://example.com/sitemap_location.xml
Fortunately, you don’t have to do anything else like specifying the sitemap type and size, as Google would automatically detect it (Source). But if you are dealing with a bigger sitemap (with multiple pages), then follow this method to generate and submit it.
