I do foresee that if a couple of hundred thousand users all vote the same page to the top it will somehow have to reflect in overall returned search results though. I can't think of agood reason why SEs should think that a site with regular spikes in traffic is a bad one. May be even if they have a not-so-good SEO done, the social media traffic helps a lot, probably it's because of the backlink potential it has.
