SEO & Blogging – Young bloggers perspective

One question that I often get repeatedly asked is – I’ve started a new blog. What SEO do I do, where do I go ?

A very fair question I’d say. We all started from scratch some made it big and some are still trying. Accepting the fact that not all are popular and successful as they wanted to be, its really a question on what are the formulas that if followed will get you to the top.

seo-blogging-tips

I’d like rephrase the question. Let’s ask – what are the steps that will NOT get you to the top ? I bet it’ll be easier to answer.

- Irregular posts
- Boring and often repeated content
- Bad design
- Poor networking
and the 101 other reasons that you can think of.

But SEO is slightly different here. In blogging, most of the learning is done from trial and error I’d say. We learn a lot of stuff from others, we try aping the pros, make mistakes, write rubbish, get punished, and all of that. Blogging has a broader learning curve may be.

In SEO, we have no luxury. There is very little room for mistakes, no time to study things slowly, and no “let-me-see-where-it-goes” policies. If you are not doing it right, just be reminded that someone else is doing it right and you’re chance is lost. So SEO for beginners is really very important.

For young bloggers, my advice if it can be called are two.

1. Do your basics right in SEO, Design and Brand.

2. Keep a target for yourself and continuously struggle towards it, keeping in mind a long learning curve.

Why get your basics right ?

Because there is no second chance for you. If you don’t do it right today, you’re pushed down by the rest. Its a survival tactic. Everything else that you build upon will largely depend on your basics. The visibility of the content you start writing, will hugely depend on your backend and structure. Get the best software, the best SEO done and the best design, its like building your skeleton. Your content leverages on the framework and are like building muscles to it.

So my tip to young bloggers is to focus on the long run, lay a good foundation right from the start and start building on the content. Once you have the right combo, you’ll see the results come in automatically.

I agree with what you said. You have to make sure all the SEO fundamentals are in place before you can really take off. If they aren’t in place, then its highly unlikely that you will ever get big (unless you’re well know and can supplement exposure in other ways)!
