8 Habits of Successful & Popular Twitter users for Inspiration
| Tweet | Share |
First off, being popular on Twitter isn’t everything. There is nothing glorious about it, its just a temporary thing and it feels nice when you’re on the ranks, but that’s about it.
I’m not of the opinion that ranks alone bring success and popularity on Twitter. Ranks do mean numbers. So that’s a lot of tweeting. But that doesn’t necessarily say that you’re the coolest guy around and people will love you forever. People love others for what they do. And on Twitter too, its for what you tweet, that people will remember you, not your ranks.
So, I’m trying to say that this article won’t help you climb up the Twitter ranks or make you the most popular tweeter, but it may..just may make you the most recommended twitter around. Now, that a lot of value right ?
Okay, so here are 8 habits of successful & popular tweeps that I found interesting and easy to copy.
(Note: Being Popular and Successful are not all the same, so make your judgement wisely please. The guy with 1 million followers needn’t be popular (or successful), as a blogger with 10k followers who re-tweets every single tweet of his.)
1. Tweet regularly Witty, Clever and Genuine tweets – Chris Brogan
When you read his tweets, you know he’s the clever, cool guy around.
2. Be Passionate, willing to learn, and share lot of value through your tweets – Perry Belcher
You either love him or hate him. No in betweens. And if you see his videos, you’ll know what passionate marketing is all about.
3. Tweet frequently about anything that interests you – Alyssa Milano
Alyssa tweets frequently, very frequently. But what’s interesting is that she tweets about things that interests her the most. And they turn out to be genuinely interesting stories, that are re-tweeted most.
4. Make friends like crazy, be caring and lovely to everyone equally – BuzzEdition
If you’ve been following Susan, you know what I’m talking about. She comes off as this loving, charming lady who’s always fun to talk to.
5. Share the value of tweets with the community – ReTweet valuable tweets – Jason Pollock
If you’ve seen Jason tweet over the time, you might have noticed how quick he is to befriend someone if he sees value. And not just that, he’s one of the few tweets who’s generous about Re-Tweets, without caring who it is from, its the tweet’s value that matters.
6. Have your own style, people will love you for what you are – FeatureBlend
Most people even don’t know where he’s from but he’s one of the most friendliest Twitter user you’ll find in the toppers list.
7. Be genuine, not everyone are Social Media Enthusiasts on Twitter – Kim Sherrell
Kim is a great example who shows how non-social media people can be popular on Twitter. She tweets about funny, interesting things that might just reach to everyone, rather than sticking to only web related or design tweets.
8. Stay focussed and up to date with your tweets – Phaoloo
Those who follow Phaoloo knows how focussed and motivated he is towards updating the latest news from the design / tech world. Be it resources or news alerts, Phaoloo religiously follows lot of blogs that are from the design/tech niche and tweets the stories.
So, there you go. Its interesting to see how each person has their own identity and style on Twitter right ? There are no thumb rules here on Twitter but its nice to see things get evolve on its own and there is a lesson to be learned at every corner.
Hope you liked them.

Karthik, any way of bookmarking your favourite twitter friends? Say like, you open your account and go straight to the people’s tweets you want to see instead of going through all the rubbish the people you follow have tweeted?
Kartik, thanks for sharing Great tips on twitter…
Also, don’t worry about how many followers you have. When you just tweet what you want and be yourself the followers will come.
True, true.
It seems that most of the twitter peoples are not following most of this., They aren;t genuine sometimes or not updated or not retweeting valuable ones or retweeting randomly not knowing even what the Tweet is about. This post may teach the etiquette of Tweeting to these people.
Excellent tips! I’m going to start implementing these to my daily tweeting…
Thanks!
