LoL Mani ! thanks for the post, I was planning to make one on similar thoughts but you just wrote my mind. While the humor in your post is evident and I do feel the same way when some of my "prospective clients" come up with those type of comparisons, at times it gets rather frustrating.

People often have a notion "Indian" means cheap and with so many self proclaimed "SEO experts" from India giving such miraculous offers it becomes all the more extablished.

Lat week I spoke to someone who had a guarantee from someone in India, who can optimize his entire ecommerce site (around 400 products) for one whole year and get him first page ranks for 80% of keywords in 2 months time for Rs.20000 ( approx $400) one time fee to be paid in advance.

He wanted to check if I could match the offer - I couldn't , would you like to try ? ;)

That's too HYSTERICAL! I feel like you've been sitting in on some of my meetings with clients! I think what happens with these fly by night companies is that they start up a new website, go out and try to scam as many as possible and then when people figure it out.. close up shop and crop up with another url to scam some more people.

I just "rescued" a client from a service that she was paying $99/month for so that she could have a google local listing for our town.. ummmm... THAT doesn't cost anything... so I advised her to cancel this "service"... she felt stupid of course, but also grateful that some of us are honest and interested in helping our clients not hurting them.

SEO is a valuable service, so as a customer you just have to do your research before selecting an SEO. If an SEO is charging a low fee, ask yourself 'Is there a reason the fee is so low? Don't they value their services?'

At the same time, SEO's that charge a lot may give you quality, but may be used to working with super-large clients or accounts, so you may not be top-priority for them.

In the end, you just need to try to find a quality SEO at a price that fits your budget.

Yeah you are certainly right. just because someone is not prepared to pay your prices, it doesn't mean anything in the scheme of things. There are many company's that do understand the importance and indeed to some extent the process of quality SEO. When people make these claims, people who actually believe them, probably won't second time round!
