In my experience, it is not good SEO practice to have your home page look like a blog, even if the site is primarily a blog.

We have all noticed how sometimes a blog post jumps to the top of the SERPs, only to fall in position seemingly in tandem to its position in the blog. Google likes indexes. It likes blogs for up-to-date information but seems to prefer "real websites" for real information.

excerpts to be used as a teaser to the visitor and also visitor can quickly skip the not interested post and scroll down quickly.

I think more importance for excerpts goes to user ease and interest for the topic.

If a user is interested in reading selected articles or the ones he is interested to have knowledge, then the excerpts will help him ease his job sorting out the needed in a single look.

I have seen many blogs with 10-15 posts on a main page. I personally think that the ratio of posts should be low and your matter and page visibility and easiness should enable a user to feel interested in clicking for other similar posts.

What do you think?

If you have gold, (comparison of content with gold) hidden deep inside and then people will come with referrals and dig deep into your pages to read more... and find them
