10 Factors determining SEO value of backlinks & How to find them with a Backlink Checker

What is the most mundane job on earth ? Being an SEO I tell you.
Just kidding. But seriously, being an SEO involves a lot of homework. And sometimes it can get tedious when you’re dealing with a lot of data.
When it comes to fighting competition, finding out what others are good at is a very good start. When you have the facts in place (SEO metrics) its easy for you to ape them and climb up. When it comes to analyzing competition, finding the backlinks is the most important task.
There are of course many tools available for finding backlinks to a website, but most of them aren’t reliable, and usually get stuck when there are lots of data to be found.
To find the number of backlinks to a site, all you got to is search for “link:yoursite.com” on Google (Ha! you knew it.) But the important part is about finding clues from them.
What factors can you analyze from Backlinks to a site ?
1 - Find the PageRank of each site/page linking to your competitor website.
2 – Find the Anchor Text used in each backlink to your competitor.
3 – Find the number of external links on the same page.
Helps find the effective value
4 – Find the total links on the page
Including internal links
5 – Find the Effective Link Value of the Backlinks
6 – Find out if its a valuable domain listed on DMOZ and Yahoo like directories
If listed on DMOZ and Yahoo, great. if not nothing wrong, just less valuable.
7 – Find the exact domain age of the site where the backlink comes from
The more the age, the better
8 – Find the Page Title of the backlinks page
Just to get an idea if its a relevant site or not
9 – Alexa Rank of the website linking to you
Better traffic, better value link
10 – Domain IP and Region
To get an idea which region dominates your backlinks
SEO Spyglass is an SEO Tool that will fetch all these data simultaneously just in about a click. Easy as that. You could also use online tools like this one, it does a great deal too, but not quite there. I recommend SEO SpyGlass.

This is great. But I wish someone would make a tool to identify bad links
that would be awesome
Doing seo is not as much easy. Gather backlinks as many as you can but preferably do one way linking. Quality should be maintained because it is the key to success. Over-optimization should be avoided. Bounce rate will increase, therefore it affects your site negatively. Follow these steps, you will be a topnotch.
This is a very informative post. Can anyone tell me some other tools which extracts the anchor text of competitors. That would be very helpful. The tool mentioned above shows only yahoo backlinks and even there the data is not that great.
Good article but need better explanation and can you tell which tool do you use for Back Link Analysis . Thanks in advance keep posting.
I use SEO Spyglass, as mentioned above.
Let me try it and give feedback.
