Bing cracks the Google Crop Circles Logo Mystery !

Who cares if Bing isn’t the biggest search engine, it sure is smarter than Google. Well, at least in this case.

With Google releasing odd UFO related doodles/logos recently, one on SEP 5th and one Today (seen first on Google UK), it was sure that Google was suggesting something.

The first clue was confusing (see details here) but the second clue posted on Twitter today was a bit easy I should say. (Or may be Google didn’t knew that Bing would crack it.)

Here’s the clue Google posted on Twitter today.

51.327629, -0.5616088

With the looks of it, they look like map co ordinates, Checking Google and Bing Multimaps maps leads you to these results.

Google gives the exact address as –

1-7 Woodham Rdunstarred

Woking, Surrey GU21 4, UK

While Bing points you to the place right on spot. (See screenshot above, I’ve moved the red circle slightly down to make the name clear, or it overlaps right above the name.) – The place is “Horsell”.

Now, searching (Google or Bing) for “Horsell” will take you to the Wikipedia page that says that,

Horsell in Surrey is an ancient (pre-Domesday Book) village nearby to the more modern 19th. century Woking, probably best known because of its association with the story The War of the Worlds, written by H.G. Wells.

With this I think its evident that Google Mystery logos are meant to commemorate English Writer, Mr. H. G. Wells, the “Father of Science Fiction”.

His birthday is on September 21st, so I think the final logo will appear then.

Now that the mystery is solved (Bad BIng !), there is no fun in waiting. But nevertheless, let’s see if this comes out to be true.

Read my comment on the last post….. only today’s crop circle one is linked to H.G. Wells… the other is different

  2. Great deduction if this proves to be the answer, then my hat is off to you – well done! :D

  3. I think this makes a lot of sense. Today’s clue from Google wasn’t the first. How about a couple of follow-up posts explaining the others? Can bing do that? If so…jeez I wonder if THAT’S some sort of clue to a bigger mystery…

    Well, I’ll wait for Google’s answer. I don’t think it’s that easy.

  5. I think there is more to it. Everyone could see the HG Wells connection – without help from bing. I think google is telling us something is going to happen to coincide with H G Wells birthday.

Er, I certainly wouldn’t call Bing “smarter” for being less specific … in my experience it is one of the worst search engines out there.

  9. I never would have connected the dots on this one… a very interesting connection!
