You don't want to submit to the search engines, rather have them find you. The easiest way to do that is to get other sites to link to yours or post on a discussion board or blog that does not use "no follow" tags. I've heard Google will not even list a site until it has other sites linking to it, even if you go to their site and submit it yourself without incoming links you're dead in the water.
