How to backup, save & archive old tweets for future reference
Old tweets ? What old tweets ? On twitter, there are no old tweets, there are only new and newer tweets. So if you wanted to cross check or grab a link from your tweet two weeks ago, it wouldn’t be available to you (unless you haven’t tweeted since). With many of us constantly updating our twitter streams, older tweets gets literally buried. So is there a way by which you can save older tweets and possibly refer back to them. Of course yes, only if you wish to.
1. Save old tweets locally to your PC
There is a tiny little program that you can install on your Windows desktop, which will fetch all your previously available tweets and save them to a local database on your system. You can additionally delete older tweets beyond a specific time frame as well. Download Tweetpurge here.
2. Backup tweets based on dates
This is an interesting application that lets you backup all your tweets based on dates, even map them out on any calendar application (supported with iCal format) and save them for future reference. Sign up here to start backing up your tweets.
3. Backup your tweets daily
Another way to effortlessly backup and save your tweets is to use this service, backupmytweets that lets you save tweets daily periodically.
4. Save older tweets daily, automatically without giving password
This service lets you backup your tweets daily, even without giving them your password. Easy, automatic and effortless.
5. Save every tweet / Direct Message / Replies / Followers etc for offline reference
This is an awesome service – Tweet Scan Backup. Here’s what it does. It backups everything from your Tweets, Replies, Friends, Followers, Direct Messages, Favorite Tweets etc and store them offline so that you can refer them anytime even when offline. The backup tweets are shown in a Wiki format for easy navigation and reference.
Hope you find them useful.
There is also http://twapperkeeper.com which does @person, #hashtagged, and keyword tweets.

Hi Mani, nice list!
If I may plug my own – I did Sparrw (http://sparrw.com/) which backs up just the person’s timeline (daily, automatically, no password needed), but focuses on doing something useful with this data, not just having dumps; e.g. interactive timeline search, auto bookmarking, auto mailing or re-exporting as RSS.
tweetbackup doesn’t appear to work anymore
backupmytweets didn’t work either
This is just what I needed! Thanks for the great post.
http://tweetsaver.com is another web-based option.. and yes, it currently works!
Hi all and thanks for the hints.
I am a phd student, basically exploring relationships between social media and urbanism.
I am looking for a way to store offline tweets from a given geographical region, and to export them (and related meta-data) to a .csv file (or .xml, …) , in order to perform some data analysis. I hope you can help!
Thanks, Paolo
