Countries with the Fastest & Slowest Internet Speeds in the world

If you thought U.S is the country with the fastest internet in the world, you’re wrong. Its Korea, followed by some very interesting countries like Latvia, Aland Islands, Japan, Romania and Lithuania.

And the countries with the slowest internet are: Guyana, Zambia, Nepal, French Polynesia and the like. Surprising isn’t it ? Here’s the entire chart where all the countries in the world are ranked according to their internet speeds. Both the speediest and the sluggish internet connections of the whole world !

  1. Its a col info, me suffering from Slow net speed :(

  2. yes this is interesting to see this information but why you highlighted the United Arab Emirates in this list.

  3. Hope India moves up soon, and decreases charge wise :P

    • I wish too to increase the ranking of India in this chart

Really, the Internet speeds can stay slow. Let’s worry about getting working sewer systems into densely populated areas. Eventually increasing the toilet to person ratio of 1:34 to the UN standard of 1:6 would be next on the list. After this, then maybe, just maybe, worry about Internet infrastructure. That is, if roads, schools, affordable housing and adequate mass transit are handled first. India may be initiated into the global markets, but it has a long way to go before 1st world complaints seem valid.

  4. India is the 124th ?? Weird…

  5. I am surprised that America is not on the first place.
Aren’t they are the one who invented internet?

    • William

yes we did, but the major ISP’s dont want to replace their old and slow switches, those that recently installed the new ones in the past 5 years are much faster. Hence why the some small and poorer countries kick out butt in speed.

    • Kieran Reals

No america did not invent the internet it was created by Tim Burnes-Lee who is British but lives in america.
Do not always assume that america invented everything,,,, funnily enough they didnt

  6. wow, Its really informative thanks for sharing.

  7. Even US is 28th ! wow way to go korea :D

  8. Nice list. Makes me even more depressed that I moved from Hong Kong (12th in Downloads and 6th in Uploads) to Thailand (57th in Downloads and 58th in Uploads).

  9. Your correct I thought USA first and wondered were the United Kingdom would appear, a shocking #43 at least we beat Australia I guess. I want to move to Aland Islands (Were ever they are!)

  10. Vin

The data provided by SpeedTest is only the average speed for every country. You can’t decide a country has the fastest connection because of their average speed. UK ranks #43 for Download speed that’s just for average download speed as most users to pick 1 or 4 Mb/ps package as they are cheap and they good to surf & stream. However power users go from 16 to 40Mb/ps whilst Business users go upto 200 Mb/ps. My point is you cannot decide fastest & slowest connection by country by looking into the average speed tests.

What you CAN discren is the proliferation of newer technologies in those countries. For example. The slow speeds in the US is affected by several factors, all stemming from the use of older Internet technologies and poor infrastructure. Everything from switches, servers and even delivery method (coax, fiber, high band copper wiring) all play in a part of average speed. Some rural areas in the US have to rely on satelite as their delivery of broadband (some still use dial-up, but they aren’t included in this study). South Korea just happens to offer better technology to ALL of its users, power user or not, and has much more expansive fiber optic Infrastructure that has replaced practically all of their old copper wire system. So even S. Korea’s low end user package (20 MbS) would blow your so-called power user out of the water, so imagine what S. Korean pro ISPs would offer. All in all, best average speed indicates best technologies being used, therefore; best speeds overall.

Besides, I have no idea what everyone is getting so competitive about. As long as your own ISP is delivering better than national average speeds to you, you’re sitting pretty. I’m quite happy being someone who balances out low speeds with my high speed as I watch my movies, download porn and email bomb my enemies. I’m just glad I don’t live in India… not just for the Internet.

  11. Republic of korea and Latvia are on the top of the table. India should increase the position in this ranking.

  16. It’s amazing that the one who invented internet is not on the first place. I thought USA first and wondered it appears at shocking #43. Why you highlighted the United Arab Emirates in this list.?

  36. Nabim Malla

using the NTT Hikari Fiber here in Japan, I download HD movies and games all the time and I gotta say it’s hella fast and super cheap, like ¥3000/month($30)…as a PC gamer I also make gaming videos and uploading them on YouTube is also stupidly fast. I love my Internet!

  40. apchi

That’s easy, for small countrys in Europe with good backbones there isn’t need for big investments in infrastructure. 500 Mbit’s for home user? Easy. For just 15-20$

  41. Bogdan

Fuck this, I’m returning to romania. I live in Spain but i’m romanian btw.

  42. Aung Kyaw Moe

Myanmar (Burma) from Asia Internet Speed is 0 Mbps. You will check it.

  43. Lietuvake

Consider two factors while asking yourself “Why our country is 75th???”:
    1. The size of the country – the smaller the country, the relatively smaller land has to be covered and the smaller amount of money have to bet spent by the carriers. So the fact that the speeds in India or USA are smaller and Lithuania – bigger, shouldn’t surprise you.
    2. The technology used. UK has just started using optical fibre technology a few years ago while in Lithuania we already had it since I was a kid.

    • 3beforelast

do not agree with you mate…my country is in 181 and if you know about it, then it’s smaller than NSW of australia or the smallest state of US. But still i m in 181…and our telecommunication industry has used optical fibre 4/5 years back…still…181…ha ha…btw it feels like killing urself when using such a slow internet when i was using fast internet few mths back….

    • 3beforelast

  51. i’m iranian. i sorry about internet speed. now i work with adsl-128 kb per seconds-!!!!!!

  52. dsda sdsdds

    Please be precise !
Are the figures in Megabytes/sec or Megabits/sec ?
The important thing is cheap high speed internet connection is available without any limitation(both in data transfer limit sense and time limit sense) outside India.
For example, in US, in philadelphia, 8mbps(download speed) unlimited(which usually goes upto 12mbps) is available just for around $20 ! [8mbps means 1megabytes]
In Hong Kong, 48mbps is available for the same price.

  53. Cosmin Mateas

I’m shocked that Ireland is soo low on the list -where Dublin is the European capital of all IT giants (like Microsoft, Google), almost all the European headquorters of these companies are here. As well I am nicely surprised to see Romania (my country) way in the top – at least we have something fast happening there!!! :)

  54. Andreas

Right now in Jacksonville, Florida. I have 0.48 Mbps download and 0.67 Mbps upload. I pay $50 to CLEAR for this.
