The iPhone 4 v/s Android – Which is better ?
| Tweet | Share |
Clearly, the iPhone 4 is the best phone yet from Apple, no doubt. We had seen it before via Giz, so the hardware wasn’t that impressive, its shifted from the typical smooth iPhone look to the crisp, edgy Macbook Pro kinda look. Also, its gotten thinner, impressive !
But in the software section, I think most of the improvements were predictable. Improved camera, Video chat (come on, its available already on Android phones and that too Android – other handsets), Better battery life etc. In my opinion, these weren’t surprises, these ought to have been there on the next iPhone, so it didn’t excite me much.

The striking thing is that, iPhone is going in a completely different direction as the Android. While the Android goes the “cloud” way, iPhone is going the typical Apple way with sexy hardware and a pay-me-take-it app store market. Many Android devices have shown close to or even better tech specifics than the iPhone 4, but no one yet has put things together as the iPhone, except for the HTC Evo.
Even the new features like iMovie edit is not really a value addition unless you’re someone who’d taken an oath that you’d use only Apple products. A better movie editing app is probably in the Android Market now and getting an update most likely.
Android is no match for the iPhone and vice versa
An iPhone is an iPhone and comparing it to an Android is unfair because both even though crosses over at various functions, are growing in different directions. iPhone is looking at creating its own slice of market, while Android is going the more popular way of open source even without the charm of an iPhone.
So which is better – is an unfair question. A lot of it depends on what the user type is. If you’re the open source type, Android is for you, but if you’re an Apple fan and the loyal kind, the iPhone is for you.
However here’s a feature by feature comparison considering the HTC Evo 4G on Android 2.1. Correct me if wrong.
| Feature | iPhone | Android |
| 5 MP Camera | Yes | Yes |
| Display | Retina Display | AMOLED (close) |
| Multitasking | Yes | Yes |
| Thickness | Thinner | Thicker |
| Motion Sensing | 6 way gyroscope | 4 ways |
| Video recording | HD Video | HD Video |
| Screen resolution | 3.5 inch, 960×640 | 4.3 inch 800×480 (close) |
| Network access | 3G | 4G (HTC Evo) |
| Face to face video chat | Native app (Only on iPhone 4 to iPhone 4) | Available on Qik / Available on various handsets |
Just me personal thought, your thoughts might differ. If yes, feel free to share.

I’ve seen both of youtube.
So far the HTC Evo 4G didn’t really “WOW” me like what it did on the iPhone.
Appearance wise iPhone certainly beat HTC for me.
The wow factor is always with iPhone
Its for the same reason that Steve Jobs could pull it off with the same product that was leaked earlier without looking like it already did.
However I adore the HTC stand – Quietly Brilliant !
LoL! Steve Jobs has that “power” for sure.
I’m still looking at both of them. I’ve not gotten myself a phone like that before.
Thanks for the post.
What didnt WOW you in HTC Evo 4G ?
The AMOLED Screen?
Or the WiMAX ?
Or the ability to set personalized sms tones?
Or 2 way video conferencing over 3g/4g/wifi?
Or a better more open App Store ?
Or the ability to sync all your social networking feeds ?
Or the ability to do native multi tasking ?
Or the ability to tether over wifi without paying 60$ for 2gb ?
Nice one.
And the list goes on and on!
yep, nice and balanced. I’m fed up of iPhone killer stories, nothing will ‘kill’ the iPhone, and its not saturated its market yet. Android is great, iPhone is great.
I’d say apple has the win on the hardware design and app store
android has the win on OS and flexibility.
people will love both worlds, and symbian and windows 7 phone
its RIM users i feel sorry for
For me the HTC is definitely better, I have an HTV Desire, and it pretty much does everything the new iPhone will/can do.
It comes downt o people being loyal though, most of the HTC phones, especially in the UK are free with a contract, whereas the iPhone will ocst you the best part of £200, so why pay for which in essence is basically a name?
I could unserstand if you were buying cheap beans compared to heinz beans, but its not as if HTC are a bad brand or anything.
I have used both phones extensively to be honest i love my HTC better than the iPhone, that being said i do have an iPod touch, so i do get the best of both worls in most cases, haha.
I have an HTC Legend myself, and its the best phone I’ve ever had. I love HTC – really makes sense – “Quietly brilliant”
I would say “After three years of experiments & long beta testing with masses real iPhone is out in the market
”
Apple loyalists have made it possible to have iPhone + Surrounding Eco System in right direction !
I support Mani’s view point ! HTC is Quietly Brilliant !
They don’t create much hype – they just deliver !
It’s great to see a real player to compete with the iPhone. It should result in a “Win” for consumers.
I am using iPhone 3Gs it that there no issues so for. So my vote is always for Apple. I am sure that iPhone 4 will be better than Android.
How about the fact that the iphone is so easy to use that a baby can use it and if i gave any Android phone to my 2 year old he’d get frustrated and launch it. Yeah it’s a great phone but i’m so happy people have stopped asking me for help with their phone\phone buying choice\phone accesories…
How many times did you get asked.. hey local IT Tech person family friend.. what kind of mobile should i get.. and now that i have gotten a new unknown model can import all my contacts for me and teach me how to use it!.. BAHHH those days a gone..
