Top 5 Rental Cars You Should Avoid Like the Plague

You know the script… You’re dispatched to the middle of nowhere on a business trip. Instead of landing on the Corvette you’ve been looking forward to at the airport, you end up behind the wheel of a mind-numbing piece of junk. Makes you want to slit your wrists, huh? Well, the car rental business is not devoid of lemons. The wrong choice of rental car can turn an otherwise bland trip into a nightmare of sorts. Below are some of the cars to avoid like the plague.

  1. Nissan Versa

You will find this sedan car or its hatchback the Versa Note in most car rental parks. They come with a continuous variable transmission, non-fuel efficient 4-cylinder gas engines, and a number of pointless features. It may look like the ideal car from the outside but it not a car you want to be driving around in. As an alternative, go for the Chevrolet Sonic. It comes with easy to use features and is a better fuel saver.

  1. Mitsubishi Lancer

When it went into the market in 2008, it was one of the best vehicles of its time. However, many years later, there have not been any major improvements to it. The car is now too old to be on the road. It has an uncomfortable interior with low tech entertainment options. There are plenty of other alternatives to this outdated sedan. Consider going for a Hyundai Elantra. It comes with a better exterior design and a more up to date interior.

  1. Nissan Sentra

This is referred to as an appliance sedan because of its inability to function perfectly at all times. When it was first introduced in the market, it was referred as the BMW of people on a budget. However, over the years no improvements have been made to its design. If you want an effective, reliable and highly functional sedan, go for a Mazda 3 instead.

  1. Chrysler 200

While it is one of the classier looking sedans you will come across at a car hire park, a closer look at it will show you why it is not a good option. It comes with a 4-cylinder engine or a 9-speed automatic. Its not fuel efficient, not by a long shot. The interior is not as spacious as you would expect even though you might get the impression that it’s spacious. In the long run, it will not be worth your money. Consider going for a Nissan Altima instead.

  1. Ford Taurus

This is probably the world’s most rented car. However, it does not necessarily make it an ideal option. The 2017 version comes with some outdated features with an interior that is not as spacious as you would expect. Consider going for the Ford Fusion instead. It offers more interior space, is more fuel efficient, more manageable, and comes with a host of modern features. A better alternative to the two is the dodge charger.

There you go. Those are some of the cars to avoid like the plague when you’re shopping around for a rental car.
